In Verdwaalde Veteranen (transl. Lost Veterans), a group of Dutch veterans with chronic PTSD find shelter at ‘De Thuisbasis’, a refuge in the forests of Drenthe, the Netherlands. Who are they, without their gear, after years of serving in the military? Honest and vulnerable, they talk about their demons and their struggles. After getting stuck in the public healthcare system, they try to reconnect in civilian society. Filmmaker Marjoleine Boonstra depicts their intense experiences and lets us look straight into their hearts and souls, and lets us understand what PTSD is.
