DE WAARHEID focuses on one of the most important elements of our democracy: the fragile balance between power and trust. How do those elected by the people deal with the trust they gained? And how important is honesty and transparency?
In DE WAARHEID, through in depth interviews, we zoom in on those involved in the fireworks disaster that happened in the Dutch town of Enschede and see how, after 20 years, people still point to each other and nobody wants to take responsibility. Using Enschede as an example, DE WAARHEID investigates whether fear of guilt exceeds the sense of responsibility.
Which truth are the characters in the film telling us? And how does that effect our trust in those who are responsible?
