Across the world’s megacities, EDM clubs have become cathedrals of desire and spectacle. Club Heaven takes place inside one of the most renowned clubs in China, #19 on DJMag’s global Top 100 list.
Through precise, observational images — from the stacking of champagne cases to the quiet cleanup after dawn — director Jona Honer captures both the ecstasy of the crowd and the fatigue of those who serve it. Backstage, workers are reminded that they are replaceable; in the storage rooms, they rest and talk about beauty, wages, and survival.
Stripped of music and shot partly with a thermal camera, the film transforms the club into a living organism — its pleasures and pressures laid bare under an X-ray glow. Between spectacle and exhaustion, Club Heaven reveals the anatomy of a global dream: the pursuit of transcendence, one night at a time.
