Submarine Channel releases its first VR film in apps on March 16 2017
After having premiered at VR Days Europe in Amsterdam in November 2016 and showcased at the Berlinale in February 2017, the film Ashes to Ashes is now available to the public for free on mobile and VR platforms: IOS, Android, Steam, Oculus and Playstation VR. Having won the gold medal at Durch VR Awards for best immersive 360 video on March 2017, Ashes to Ashes is now touring festivals.
Directed by three directors from different disciplines – theatre, film and a VR pioneer – Ashes to Ashes is a surreal, tragicomedy in virtual reality about how a dysfunctional family handles the dying wish of their grandfather. It is Submarine’s first VR film and this 11 minutes long video is in English. Shot in one-take, the film proposes a reflection on the VR medium itself and choosing your own reality by embedding different levels of setting.
Ashes to Ashes is a co-production between Submarine Channel and AVROTROS – the largest Dutch broadcaster, in collaboration with production house WeMakeVR – a pioneer in the Dutch VR scene, Jaunt VR – world leader in cinematic VR, Force Field VR – a company specialized in 3D content for VR and AR, and Big Orange – a sound studio with a track record in spatial audio.
