About Submarine:
Submarine’s animation slate features a multitude of award-winning films and series, which are as varied in style as in their target demographic. Submarine Animation prides itself in its ability not to be confined to just one look or technique – putting the needs of each individual project front-and-center. As such, we work with 2D as well as 3D animation, digital as well as traditional crafts, and live-action/animation hybrids.

About the Production
We are producing a high-end full CG family feature film, with an emphasis on rich design, compelling characters, and a handcrafted cinematic style. Our studio brings together a passionate, international team of artists and technicians dedicated to pushing storytelling and visual craft.

The Role
We are seeking an experienced Assets Supervisor to lead the development of all CG assets for the film, including characters, props, and environments. This role bridges artistry and technology, overseeing a team of modelers, surfacing artists, groomers, riggers, and look-dev specialists to deliver production-ready assets that align with the creative vision and pipeline requirements.

You will be the key point of contact between the creative leadership, production management, and downstream departments, ensuring assets are delivered on time, at the highest quality, and function seamlessly across the pipeline.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor the Assets Department (modeling, surfacing, groom, rigging, set dressing, look-dev).
  • Translate the director’s and art department’s vision into practical asset development strategies.
  • Work closely with the Art Director, CG Supervisor, and other department leads to ensure stylistic consistency and technical robustness of all assets across the pipeline.
  • Define and maintain asset creation standards, workflows, and documentation.
  • Partner with Pipeline/TD teams to optimize tools, publishing, and versioning processes.
  • Plan and prioritize tasks in collaboration with production management, tracking asset progress and troubleshooting delivery issues.
  • Provide regular feedback and reviews to the asset team, maintaining artistic quality and technical precision.
  • Ensure assets are production-ready for downstream departments (layout, animation, lighting, FX).
  • Act as a problem-solver for both artistic and technical challenges in asset creation.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as an Assets Supervisor, Lead, or similar role on at least one animated feature film or high-end episodic project.
  • Strong knowledge across the full asset pipeline: modeling, surfacing, grooming, rigging, and look-dev.
  • Solid understanding of production pipelines and workflows in a feature animation or VFX environment.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard software (Maya (and plugins), Houdini, ZBrush, Substance Painter, Blender, V-Ray, or equivalent).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to balance artistic goals with technical constraints.
  • A collaborative spirit and passion for storytelling and animation.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in family feature films or stylized CG projects.
  • Knowledge of asset management systems (ShotGrid, Ayon or equivalent.).
  • Background in sculpting or design with a strong artistic eye.
